Extracurricular learning centre:
education for sustainable development

The Klimahaus Bremerhaven is the first knowledge and adventure world entirely devoted to the complex topic of the climate. The Klimahaus, as a climate museum and science centre, is therefore the ideal location for your school excursion. Scientific principles have been incorporated in interactive exhibits and the impressive reproduction of scenery: at the Klimahaus you will get an authentic insight into the different climate zones of the Earth, the progress of climate change, and the scenarios for the future. In addition, the Klimahaus shows what possibilities exist to actively protect our climate. In 2012, the Climate House was recognised as a measure in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, and in 2016 and 2018 it received the award as the highest category learning venue of the UNESCO World Programme of Action on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). In the current UNESCO programme “ESD for 2030: Realising the Global Sustainability Goals”, the Climate House received the national award as a particularly committed initiative from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German UNESCO Commission.

(Inter)active education

As an extracurricular learning centre, the Klimahaus offers you the opportunity to engage (inter)actively with climate change, its causes and its consequences. School students are motivated to take responsibility for their environment and their own actions, to think ahead and to take measures to protect future generations from the worst effects of climate change. They get tips and ideas for a sustainable lifestyle and are encouraged to get involved. As an extracurricular learning centre, the Klimahaus is a rich and rewarding complement to school. Let your lessons on the weather, the climate, climate change, climate protection and sustainable development become an interactive and sensory experience!
